Corowa Medical Centre is an accredited teaching practice and involved in the teaching of Medical Students and post-graduate education (GP Registrar).
Corowa Medical Centre has been serving the region for over 100 years.
Initially started in 1910 by Dr Barnard, who was later joined by Dr Fairley, the practice grew, and in 1964 Dr Rodney Barkman joined. The medical centre was purpose built in 1976 in the location that we currently occupy, and in late 1978 Dr Ross Wilson moved into these rooms with Dr Barkman.
In June 1999 a branch was opened in Rutherglen, Victoria, at the old Courthouse Building, providing medical advice to the surrounding region. In March 2005, the Rutherglen practice was relocated to a purpose-built building that it shares with Glenview Community Health Service.
Corowa Medical Centre has continued to grow, reflecting the ongoing patient health focus. A number of major renovations have been carried out to expand the Centre over the years, and with this growth, additional Doctors and have joined the practice. This has allowed us to provide a range of health services to the surrounding communities.
Providing much needed medical services to the cross-border region of Corowa Rutherglen has always been the priority of our Doctors and will continue to be into the future.
Corowa and Rutherglen both offer many sport related activities, such as golf, tennis, bowling, rowing, horseracing, fish, water sports, football and skydiving, just to name a few. The snowfields are not far away and local wineries offer a choice of wines to suit anyone.
Corowa is also the birthplace of Australian Federation.
